This summer, more precisely on the middle of July, I made 3 years using eMule. I was planning on making this post on the anniversary day, not to brag about what I’ve done with eMule and what not, but more about showing what’s a normal usage of eMule over the years.

The details: until this same spring I’ve been connected almost 24 hours a day with a connection of 300kb download and 128kb upload, what means about 35kB/s and 13kB/s of real speed when everything was going at max.

After this spring, I’m on a 3000/580kbps line, but I don’t connect at night, and I barely download, I mostly share. Actually, usage stats of my connection tell me that I’ve uploaded more than I’ve downloaded. Plus, filling up all this bandwidth in eMule is a bit hard.

I know the eMule stats contain a lot of numbers, but there are a couple of points which are interesting. For example, my stats show that in 3 years, 90% of the clients I’ve seen were eMule. Not “eMule compatible”, not “eDonkey”, not anything else: eMule, the original. Another 8% are made of eMule compatible clients (eMule mods), so it’s easy to see why people affirm that eMule is by far the preferred client for the eDonkey network.

You can obtain your eMule stats within your eMule client, in the Stats section. It has a nice collapsable tree, and although some stuff is not immediately clear, after browsing a bit you’ll understand most of the concepts these stats portray. You can export the stats as copying it as text to the clipboard, or to HTML which also has a collapsable tree. Here you have my three year stats:
