Poseable Paper Pope. It’s only missing Palpatine’s dark robe.

(more…)

I’m not much of a fan of this kind of places, but I’ve been looking at the 2008 catalog of Îkëå and while most of it is repeated and simple stuff, there are some good ideas. While I’ve heard that Ïkèå malls are traps and dangerous for people who don’t like being among many other people, I wouldn’t mind going one of these days to the local Ïkêå, and maybe inviting to some Burger King (fries optional) to whoever comes with me. Believe it or not, I’ve not been yet to the Ìk€å yet, but maybe in a couple of weeks I’ll pay a visit to buy some absolutely tasteless swedish style potato chips. Not.

Dune
Science-Fiction. USA, 1984
Director: David Lynch
Writers: Frank Herbert (original novel), David Lynch
Cast: Kyle MacLachlan, Francesca Annis, Kenneth McMillan
Dune is based in the inmense novel by Frank Herbert, although it should be considered a free version due to the amount of changes from the original storyline. Nevertheless, Dune is a cult film, with impressive visuals and compelling drama. (more…)

Anyone who has read Hyperion Cantos, will have been overhelmed by the amount of references to poetry, literature, science, history and, well, any field of human arts and sciences. One doesn’t understand really the pain of John Keats until his biography hasn’t been read. The same happens at the beginning of The Rise of Endymion with the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, simply known as Mr. Wright by Aenea and the students who appear in the start of this book. Well, Wright was the designer of the fabulous Fallingwater, a house build in the woods and over a waterfall. Today the house is a museum, but those who can visit it, can witness the awesome sheer beauty of it in this Fallingwater in 3D video.

I wrote this about the beginning of 2006, probably January the 22nd, on the now defunct mame.net boards. It was a response towards some troll who wanted to tell us what MAME is about, which IMHO is a very rude form of being idiot. Some people found this analogy both clever and fun, and since I have nothing special to say, I’m reposting it here. I haven’t changed a single word from the original post.
> Anyone who says mame is about documenting hardware and not playing games is a
> hypocrite and talking bollocks.
Well, let’s see if I can explain this to someone who is shortsighted. I mean shortsighted because you only see MAME from your point of view, that’s the point of view of someone who only wants to play the games and doesn’t give a damn about anything else. (more…)

After my memory upgrade of yesterday, I got a couple of random crashes and resets. First I thought that the DIMM was bad, and I started a test using Memtest86. Then I realized that the only change I did besides putting a new DIMM was closing the computer case. It was a simple matter of overheating. (more…)

Well, I’m not exactly talking about memories, rather about memory. In a violent frustration attack, today I bursted out of my home with all my savings, which allowed me to purchase a single 512mb DIMM. It’s a shame, because 1gb DDR was even cheaper, but my motherboard only allows 164 pins DIMM modules. In any case, the spending proved instantly useful, as now I have enough memory for everything to run smoothly. Even NFS Most Wanted goes better, and eMule walks softly among the thousands of sources I have right now. (more…)
