So finally today I got the adapter, and I’ve plugged the PS2 to this ancient TV. Pretty much I can say it works, however I’ve not had much luck with the games. Over the last months, and since I learned that one of the old PS2 worked, I’ve downloaded several classics, and burned them to DVD. I think I did everything well, yet most of the games don’t work.
The PS2 detects the disc as a PS2 disc, but it doesn’t load them. The NTSC->PAL conversions didn’t work (black screen), the PAL rips didn’t work (no load), and from the dozen games I have, only three actually load.
This summer, when I was using this PS2, when a game didn’t load, the screen stayed black; I’d reset and after one or two tries, the game would load. Now the games just go back to the navigator, which detects the PS2 disc, but refuses to load it. After pushing X, the screen goes black for 3-4 seconds, and back to the navigator. Very frustrating.
So maybe I did something wrong while burning the discs, maybe they weren’t ripped correctly for the exact chip in this console (I’m guessing it’s very old), or maybe I didn’t sacrificed the chicken in the right way and the voodoo gods are mad at me. I’ll give some of these discs to other PS2 owners and see if they can make them work. It’s kind of sad to have 2 copies of NFS:MW and none of them work…
