The Times They Are A Changin’

This last day of October is the culmination of a long process of reorganization and cleaning in my physical environment. Think that I spend 95% of the time in a 3×4m space, and I’ve not been caring it for about 7-8 years. So all this cleaning, reorganization, all the stuff I got rid of, it’s not just the typical “oh ok, let’s do spring cleaning at autumn”. It has been a long and hard process involving moving furniture, painting, and taking difficult decisions about what to keep and what to throw away, what new things to get, all this during a hard time in my life. It hasn’t been very continuous and it has been a few months from beginning to end, but after today’s wardrobe holocaust, I’m happy to say that it has really finished. I’ll keep doing some stuff, and there’s some furniture I want to replace, but I’m satisfied with the work and organization as it is now. Anyone who has ever seen my room and knows how it looks, would have a quite surprising time looking at it now!

Telephonophobia

Well, once someone said that everyone has a phobia (at least one). I do have one. Since phobias are in greek, and the word is already from greek, I guess it’s named telephonophobia. I totally hate telephones when I’m in a bad mood or weak moment. Since march I’ve had my cell phone’s noises off, and the other day I cut a wire in my fixed telephone because you can adjust the volume of the ring, but not turn it off. I didn’t know if cutting the wire would make the whole phone mute and unusable, but I decided I preferred it dead than ringing from time to time. (more…)

Que todos los que el pasado martes 23 me llamaron o me dejaron SMS en el móvil sepan que lo tenía apagado, y a la mañana cuando lo he encendí, no me ha llegó nada, Bordefone se ha comió todas las llamadas perdidas y mensajes pendientes. Eso es buen servicio (sarcasmo).

My movies list

After a long time without touching it, I’ve rewritten the PHP lil proggie which generates my list of movies. Although in the surface nothing has changed, the code is very different, cleaner, more redundancy free, easier to change and maintain, and generally I’m happier with the result. The only thing I’ve not done is to change from HTML to XHTML/CSS, I’m saving that for next time. The only visible change is the possibility of generating the list as text almost ready to print (only taking 4 double-sided pages at Arial 8 in two columns). I’ve also made a permanent link, so from now on, the list will always be available at http://www.eligeotravez.net/moviez. Although the list is mainly in spanish, it’s perfectly browsable by english speakers, with each movie having the original title.

Spam and crime

Well, I really have felt a burst of rage due to spam more than once and twice, but in the end I’m a pacific person. I guess not everyone else is so pacific, that’s why this spammer has been killed: Russian viagra and penis enlargement spammer murdered. Not that I’d approve it (publically), but I won’t shed a tear.

Update: Apparently it was a hoax. It wouldn’t have surprised me if it was true, but at least, as a long-time dehoaxer, I’m reporting that in this case, the story wasn’t true.

PS2 woes (first part, I guess)

So finally today I got the adapter, and I’ve plugged the PS2 to this ancient TV. Pretty much I can say it works, however I’ve not had much luck with the games. Over the last months, and since I learned that one of the old PS2 worked, I’ve downloaded several classics, and burned them to DVD. I think I did everything well, yet most of the games don’t work. Hart’s Hope is a fantasy novel written in 1983 by Orson Scott Card. Hart’s Hope is not the usual sword & sorcery book, with a hero who finds allies to fight against the darkness. It’s very far from the genre’s standards, and maybe that’s one of its strong points. (more…)
