Welcome to Pi in the Sky. This page will tell you a little bit about the site and about me.
My real name is of no importance. Nowadays, almost everyone calls me Pi. Pi as in the greek letter, the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. I use Pi as a nick both in real life and in teh Internet. I’ve been active in internet since 1997, although I’ve been dealing with computers since I was young. In a past life, I was a programmer, although I’ve quite abandoned it because… It. Stresses. The. Hell. Out. Of. Me.
I have a large amount of hobbies and interests, and I’ve been involved with a large amount of projects, from widely known such as Wikipedia, to less famous (but still great) like CAESAR. If you want to know about my interests, just visit the site. Reading all the articles and stuff I’ve done here will tell you more about me than any half-assed short introduction. Get to the site map and you’ll have a good glimpse.
The site itself is another matter. I’ll give you more details than you’d want. I’ve been wanting to do something like this for a loooong time. After some kind of weird stupid personal crisis in March 2007, I started seriously a project for a personal site (nth iteration of a long chain of unfinished projects). I have this need of writing stuff, writing about stuff, and just writing. This site is a mix between a portal to my interests, and a platform to store and show all that writing. It is not really a blog, although I guess I’ll put some personal stuff.
The name of the site, Pi in the Sky, comes from a short story by one of my favorite sci-fi writers, Fredric Brown. The story was written in 1945, you can find it in a compilation of his short stories called The Star Mouse. The story itself really has nothing to do with myself or this site, but it’s quite good, and due to the name, I kept it in my mind after I adopted the nick Pi (although it has nothing to do with such nick). I’ve used the name for a few aborted tries of personal sites, and finally, emulating Frankenstein, it’s alive!
The logo shown at the top is me casting a shadow over a thomb (or a thomb growing over my shadow). It was drawn by an ex-coworker called Richard, I lost contact with him, but I’ll never stop thanking him for this little drawing. I use it even for my business cards. The starry background was done by me using a *cough* trial version of Universe Image Creator.
