Yesterday I accidentally clicked on a file which I knew it was a trojan. I’ve spent five hours today trying to get rid of it, without any luck. Thankfully I had a mildly recent backup, only 20 days old, and I was able to restore it without any problem thanks to Acronis True Image. However I lost my entire Games folder because I tried to remove the trojan/rootkit with a bad product called CounterSpy. In the end I think I didn’t lost anything due to the rootkit itself, which is kind of… Weird. Acronis True Image: good. Sunbelt CounterSpy: big, slow, bad, dangerous to use.

This is the story of a site called GiveAwayOfTheDay. It gives free full versions of shareware applications. More than that, it also gives free full versions of games in Game GiveAwayOfTheDay. Every day they choose one application and one game, and offer a free, complete version for 24 hours. No trials, no demos, no nagware. Full complete versions. (more…)

I used to swear for Grisoft AVG Anti-virus 7 Free Edition, and comparisons done some years ago seemed to demostrate that AVG was a great choice in the antivirus field, and it was free. Finally I got tired of them, and went to some antivirus comparisons like AV Comparatives and an article on Chip magazine (in german) trying to find which free antivirus was better. (more…)

This summer, more precisely on the middle of July, I made 3 years using eMule. I was planning on making this post on the anniversary day, not to brag about what I’ve done with eMule and what not, but more about showing what’s a normal usage of eMule over the years. (more…)

It seems that when I was making my Understanding eMule articles, I forgot to check for the latest ZZUL version. Well, it seems that almost a month ago, the code stopped being in beta and ZZ has released binaries of eMule ZZUL 20070629-0947 (based on eMule 0.48a). This is the only eMule mod I recommend, besides the official eMule 0.48a.
